The Thinklogical line of DVI only video extenders all utilize a single fiber per DVI display. The VIS-23 extends a single link DVI video channel and it does not support the DDC (Display Data Channel). This extender is essentially a VIS-13 DVI Video Extender, except the VIS-23 comes with a local display port (DVI-D on the transmitter). If DDC is required in your application, the VIS-3 DVI Video Extender is one of two DVI video only extenders to choose from. The other is the VIS-30 DVI Video Extender.

The VIS-23 features a small package and requires a transmitter power supply (cube, included) for the additional circuitry necessary to power the local display. The VIS-23 is available with a single ST fiber connector and a single DVI-D video connector on both the transmitter and receiver. The VIS-23 video extender has a power indicator light and a link status LED, which will indicate the presence (or lack) of sufficient optical power for the extender to operate within specification, possibly revealing a fiber infrastructure problem, such as a bad connection or a broken fiber.
