The VIS-5 fiber optic KVM extension system is comprised of a transmitter device, which is co-located with the computer or source machine, and a receiver device, which is located close to the display, keyboard, mouse and other desktop devices. Two dedicated multimode fiber strands connect the transmitter to the receiver.

The VIS-5 fibre optic KVM extender is the most complete high resolution system available! The video source can be either analogue RGB or digital DVI, a first in the industry. The VIS-5 KVM system will support USB, PS2, and Sun (legacy) keyboard and mouse, USB tablets, full duplex stereo audio, serial and even stereo graphics emitter signals (BNC) for immersive graphics (3D) applications.

The VIS-5 is a digital fibre optic transmitter/receiver system. All video, keyboard, mouse, USB, serial, audio and stereo graphics emitter signals from the computer source are digitized and converted to light at the transmitter. These optical signals are then sent to the VIS-5 fibre optic receiver via two fibres. One fiber supports the video and the other supports all other signals.

NOTE: The VIS-5 KVM Extender, as with all other Thinklogical extenders is fully compatible with all other Thinklogical extenders. The transmitter from one VIS extender may be used with any VIS extender receiver (excepting the Dual-Link DVI products). This unique feature allows customers to extend digital (DVI) sources to analogue (RGB) destinations and vice versa.

The receiver converts the video signals back from optical to both RGB and DVI standard formats, which allows the use of either traditional analogue monitors or newer DVI display devices. If RGB is preferred, the receiver can output any of three video sync configurations, RGBHV (separate H & V), RGsB (sync on green), or RGBH/V (composite). No external converter boxes are required. The system also has connectivity for all common keyboards and mouse types, USB, PS2 and Sun legacy. All electronic conversion, re-mapping and even international translation is supported. No more keyboard converter boxes. Everything you need to assure compatibility between the computer and the user station devices is bundled into the VIS-5 system already.
