The VIS-10 fiber optic KVM extension system is comprised of a transmitter device, which is co-located with the computer or source machine, and a receiver device, which is located close to the display, keyboard, mouse and other desktop devices. Two dedicated multimode fiber strands connect the KVM transmitter to the KVM receiver.

The VIS-10 fiber optic KVM extender is a feature rich product designed to extend DVI video and USB human interface signals. The video source must be single link DVI. The VIS-10 KVM Extender system will support USB 1.0 human interface devices (HID) such as keyboard, mouse, tablet, touch screen, trackball, etc.. The VIS-10 transmitter has connections for a local DVI display. Local keyboard and mouse may be connected through a local USB hub (purchased separately).

The VIS-10 is a digital fiber optic transmitter/receiver system. All video and USB signals from the computer source remain digitized and are converted to light at the transmitter. These optical signals are then sent to the VIS-10 fiber optic DVI KVM receiver via two fibers. One fiber supports the video and the other supports USB and other data such as DDC and link status information.

NOTE: The VIS-10, as with all other Thinklogical extenders is fully compatible with all other Thinklogical extenders. The transmitter from one VIS extender may be used with any VIS extender receiver (excepting the Dual-Link DVI products). This unique feature allows Thinklogical customers to extend digital (DVI) sources to analog (RGB) destinations and vice versa. Standard KVM receivers will also translate a USB keyboard and mouse at a source to PS2 or Sun at the destination eliminating compatibility conflicts.

The receiver converts the video signals back from optical to electronic DVI formats, which allows the use of DVI display devices. No external converter boxes are required. The system also has connectivity for USB devices as well. No more keyboard converter boxes. Everything you need to assure compatibility between the computer and the user station devices is bundled into the VIS-10 DVI USB Extender system already.
